Alexis Bittar launched his eponymous jewelry collections in the early '90s; but the Brooklyn native's artistic flair was evident long before then. As a child, Bittar accompanied his parents to flea markets, where they collected and sold rare antiques. Fueled by his passion for antiques, including art deco Bakelite and turn-of-the-century Lalique glass, Bittar began designing his own line of Lucite and semi-precious jewelry at age 22, selling his wares on the streets of SoHo.
Despite the minimalist trend of the 1990's, Bittar's bold designs quickly caught the eye of store buyers from world-renowned museums, luxury department stores and high-end specialty boutiques, both nationwide and overseas. Described as "one of the most innovative jewelry designers of the 21st century", Alexis Bittar's designs act as cult favorites of A-list celebrities including Cameron Diaz, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys and Whitney Houston; as well as influential fashion icons Iris Apfel and Karl Lagerfeld. Bittar's designs have been featured in over 6 national ad campaigns for Estee Lauder and he has collaborated with legendary costume designer Patricia Field for HBO's "Sex and the City" since the show's conception.
In 2004, Alexis Bittar won the Accessories Council's "Rising Star" award and became a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Bittar has collaborated with some of the world's most renowned fashion designers, creating exclusive runway collections for both Michael Kors and Burberry. In March 2010, Alexis Bittar was nominated for the 'Accessory Designer of the Year' award by the CFDA, alongside Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler.
