INTERNSHIP FASHIONISTA: Catch Some Attention
Written by: Sarah Weinberg

As seasoned Fashionistas, the "solitary gasp, narrowing eyes, swift shuffle to the prize" moment isn’t lost on any of us. Out of an excess of floral blouses, colored pants or sky-high stilettos, it’s the second you settle on the most fantastic piece of fashion you’ve laid eyes on since yesterday’s lunchtime window shopping rendezvous. It’s then that you realize there’s nothing more you, the unpaid intern, would rather spend your life savings on.

But, after you spend said life savings on said unforgettable item, you no doubt look forward to others imitating the same hemming and hawing you made over your purchase upon its debut at your workplace. It’s only natural. Though we shop and dress to our own heart’s content, it’s nice to see (or hear) our efforts paying off.

And, pay off this Fashionista’s efforts did. In an unapologetically bright mixture of varying colors, silhouettes and patterns, it’s easy to imagine the major bouts of wardrobe envy her fellow Harper’s Bazaar fashion interns developed. Though the boldness of her outfit certainly does not go unnoticed, it isn’t so distracting that it’s deemed inappropriate. In fact, it might even befit you to wear something particularly eye-catching.

This Fashionista went for broke in a neon orange skirt from Zara with a perfectly unmatched striped top from H&M. She doesn’t shy away from accessories either; a vintage scarf tied haphazardly around her neck and an Hermès belt add a bit of upscale pizazz. Not only will the top notch work she puts forth get taken into account when the higher-ups assign duties, it’s likely she’ll be the first person spotted across a bustling office in a sea of other interns.

Impressive as your impeccable taste in clothing may be, your ability to last all day in it while being the superstar intern you’re bosses know you as will turn even more heads. So, go ahead. Let out a heartfelt cry at the prospect of relinquishing all of your utterly impractical footwear to the back of the closet. But, know this: your feet are rejoicing. Even if you’re not out running errands throughout the day (which you’ll likely do from time to time), trekking to and from your desk to the copy machine, colleagues’ offices and the cafeteria will be ten times more enjoyable in a flat, breathable shoe like this Fashionista’s bejeweled sandals or a sleek pair of ballet flats.

It’s true: interning in style involves comfort, practicality, budgeting, and plenty of other terms yanked from the sage fashion wisdom passed onto us from those who’ve already conquered sartorial excellence. But, in the end, a well-deserved compliment thrown into the mix doesn’t hurt. After all, the "P.s. I forgot to mention you look adorable!" email from your intern coordinator is not a bad way to end the day.
