What is your favorite part of being a TEEN VOGUE intern?
Too many to name! If I had to pick one it would be learning from my mentors and witnessing how an idea transcends into something much larger, eventually ending up onto the glossy magazine pages. Seeing how fashion is brought to life every day at TEEN VOGUE is very inspiring.
How did you land this internship?
A close friend had put me in touch with my current supervisor and I sent her my cover letter and resume and from there the rest is history!
What advice would you give aspiring students on landing an internship?
Patience! Internships don’t just happen overnight. It’s important to stay motivated and not be discouraged easily on your search. Also, always send thank you notes after an interview!
What do you believe is the most important quality to possess in order to be a successful intern?
The most important quality for an intern to have is motivation. Even during the bleakest of tasks there is always a reason behind why you’re doing what you’re doing. Having the ability to see beyond the short term effects of any assignment is crucial for making an internship worthwhile. Motivation and a smile on your face are two things that will help you immensely.
How did your passion for fashion transpire?
When I was 17 I attended Parsons Pre-College for Fashion Design in New York and that whole experience really inspired me to pursue my love of fashion.
Who are your favorite designers?
Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler are my absolute favorite! I was lucky enough to meet them working at Fashion U this past year and was totally smitten by the both of them. I think their effortless “cool girl” designs are genius.
What are your favorite sources for fashion inspiration?
The TEEN VOGUE offices, my school campus (FIT), Pinterest, and of course the infamous Man Repeller blog.
What is your signature look?
Being bi-coastal and living both in New York and California has definitely influenced how I dress in recent years. Some days I’m in all black with a topknot on my head in 6-inch platforms and others you can find me in a crisp polo and Sperry Top-Siders. At my age I think experimenting with personal style is key to defining a signature look, but I can promise you that I will always have my Burberry cat eye sunglasses on, they never leave my face!
What is your dream job?
My dream job in 5 years would to be an assistant at TEEN VOGUE and my dream job 10 years down the road would to be a public relations director.
