An artist that traverses many media, from painting to fashion and interior and industrial design, Giunta brings to Subversive Jewelry and Deviated by Justin Giunta an inventive sensibility that sits on the continuum of fine art and commercial design. The stylistic language that Justin pioneered has earned him recognition from the fashion industry. Justin's awards include the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent at the 2009 CFDA Awards and Ecco-Domani Prize for Accessory Design in 2008 as well as finalist position in the 2007 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Subversive Jewelry plays with the baroque philosophy that more is more. Each piece is handcrafted.
Sourcing vintage materials from flea-markets and sacrificing rare collectibles, Giunta selects his materials for their intrinsic qualities to create a richly toned palette for his creations. Working with fashion designers like: Patrick Robinson, Alexander Wang, Donna Karan and J.Mendel, Justin's designs have graced fashion runways the world over. Subversive Jewelry has also participated in corporate collaborations creating unique designs for Atelier Swarovski as well as a capsule collection for Target in 2008. Guinta was just recently appointed Director of Jewelry Design at Tory Burch. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Giunta has studied at several art institutions including Pratt Institute and Gerrit Reitveld Academie in Amsterdam. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a fellowship from Yale University. Justin lives and works in New York City.
