Lisa Curran practically grew up on the beach, living in swimsuits. A fashion enthusiast from the very beginning of her beach town upbringing, Curran fondly remembers prancing around in her first swimsuit: a polka dot bikini she refused to take off as a toddler.
Over the years, Curran cultivated her taste in swimwear and faced all of the same issues women grapple with when finding the perfect swimsuit and could never find a bikini with the proper fit. Although she tried mixing size small bottoms with larger tops, nothing ever worked. After one too many frustrations, Curran realized how many other women must share her bathing suit woes, and so the idea of Lisa Curran Swim was born.
Curran got her start at Barneys New York in product development and buying and eventually moved on to become a buyer at Gucci. Being entrenched in the fashion industry, Curran developed a keen eye for recognizing cutting-edge trends and knowing what the customer wants. Frustrated after searching endlessly for European-styled suits that were chic, trendy and had perfect fit, Curran knew the time was right to launch a swim line catering to fashionable, trend-conscious consumers of all sizes.
Industry insiders consider Curran a "swimwear specialist" who can advise women on what swimsuit is most flattering and what style will make them look—and feel—sexy. Says Curran, "Most people are very self-conscious in a swimsuit, so I strive to make women exude confidence in one of my designs. I know how to fit any woman in a swimsuit, and that is the philosophy behind the collection."
After donning her first bikini, Lisa Curran has come full circle. She still loves the beach and the salt air, and despite the fact that she lives in the New York metro area, her heart and soul will always belong somewhere on the beach.
